Our Liverpool electrical contractors witness numerous electrical hazards throughout their working day, raging from the typical to the bizarre. As such we felt we would try and help eliminate some of the more common electrical hazards through drawing awareness to them. Everyone’s aware that electricity is a rather tricky and dangerous customer to dice with, yet people are putting their lives at risk on a daily basis just through simply ‘chancing it’!
Extension cords are incredibly handy, but far too many people are over stretching their abilities. Extensions are intended for temporary use, as opposed to a permanent solution to your electrical needs, and can overheat if not treat carefully. Rather than constantly needing an extension cord for an appliance, you may want to consider installing a new plug outlet.
If you find that you are using a plug, wires or an extension that appear to be frayed or damaged, think again! Not only do you run the risk of an electrical fire, but you also run a very real risk of burning or electrocuting yourself. Our electricians see a lot of cover-up jobs on their daily travels; taping up a damaged wire is never a good idea when it comes to a permanent solution. Bite the bullet and get a new extension! Leave the electrical work to the professionals…
OK, this is something you learn in primary school, but you’d be shocked at the amount of people that essentially risk their life on a daily basis. For example, if you have wet hands, don’t use your hair dryer or a light switch. You need to be super-vigilant when using outlets if you have wet hands; in fact, just don’t do it! It is a risk that can result in more than just cartoon-esq frizzy hair with smoke emanating from it.
With electricity being so free flow around the house and workplace it’s understandable that we get so desensitised to its omnipresence. However, whenever electricity is involved make sure you kick in your brain and allow commonsense to prevail; there is far too much that can go wrong with using electricals if you aren’t being careful.
