Whether you’re a homeowner or you run your own business, paying over the odds for your energy is something none of us likes to do. As electrical contractors in Liverpool, we thought we’d give you some insight into the devices and appliances that are costing you the most money.
Washer and Dryer
Using around 13% of the energy in your house, at a cost of approximately $134 per year, the washer/dryer can be a real drain on your bill. Try reducing the number of washes you do each week and, if possible, forego the dryer altogether, airing out clothes outside during clement weather.
Fridge and Freezer
Although modern refrigerators use up a lot less energy than the dated models of yesteryear, this kitchen machine is usually one the biggest sources of our electricity bills, using between 30-200 kWh of energy every month. You can’t really do without a fridge, but there are certain steps you can take to make yours more efficient, including checking the seals and ensuring there isn’t too much of a build-up of ice.
Beauty habits could be costing you money! The average hairdryer consumes up to 1,200 watts of energy per hour, at a resultant cost of around 9p. Although this doesn’t seem like much, it can soon add up, especially if there are numerous people with particularly lengthy haircare routines in your household.
In the modern day, we demand a constant connection to the internet, but this comes at a cost. The Energy Saving Trust has estimated that, on average, households splash out £80 a year just on devices which are left on standby and the wireless router is the biggest culprit. If you leave yours on all year round, it’s costing you around £21 on average; potentially more if you’re a business with larger bandwidth requirements.
